One of the outstanding results of the observational cosmology in the past fifteen years is the recognition that there is a linear correlation between the star formation rate (SFR) of star forming galaxies (SFGs) with their stellar mass (M*) at all redshifts. This thesis provides a brief summary of the recent literature about such correlation, known as the Main Sequence (MS ) of SFGs. Here the analytical form and its free parameters (slope and normalization) are discussed. along with the most important implications for our understanding of how galaxies assembled their mass across the cosmic epochs. Finally a discussion about the main questions still open to debate is presented.
