The Decimomannu NATO air base, located in the south of Sardinia, north-west of Cagliari, was affected in 2007, 2009 and 2010 by underground spills of organic contaminants (jet fuel: JP8). In the monitoring phases carried out during the site remediation, in addition to the classic point techniques, non-invasive geophysical measurements, such as electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), electromagnetic investigations (EM), induced polarization, ( IP) and injection test using time-lapse ERT measurements, were used to identify the subsoil contamination. The geophysical investigation allowed to identify two areas of high conductivity in which, potentially, the contamination could be identified, however the comparison between these measurements and the geological and hydrogeological data obtained with the classical measurements on site, allowed to localize the contaminant only along the southern border of the site and immediately southwest of this.

Abstract
The Decimomannu NATO air base, located in the south of Sardinia, north-west of Cagliari, was affected in 2007, 2009 and 2010 by underground spills of organic contaminants (jet fuel: JP8). In the monitoring phases carried out during the site remediation, in addition to the classic point techniques, non-invasive geophysical measurements, such as electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), electromagnetic investigations (EM), induced polarization, ( IP) and injection test using time-lapse ERT measurements, were used to identify the subsoil contamination. The geophysical investigation allowed to identify two areas of high conductivity in which, potentially, the contamination could be identified, however the comparison between these measurements and the geological and hydrogeological data obtained with the classical measurements on site, allowed to localize the contaminant only along the southern border of the site and immediately southwest of this.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
